Golf tips, free bets and latest odds for the Mexico Open – Best golf sign up offers
ONE man stands out at this week’s Mexico Open like a man wearing a sombrero on the Trilby Tour - Tony Finau.
Finau is the defending champion at Vidanta, after turning the tables last year on the man who pushed him into second in 2022, Jon Rahm.
Rahm is still away counting the mountain of cash he received from LIV for joining the breakaway circuit, which leaves world No 24 Finau as easily the highest rated player in the field.
There are only four other members of the world’s top fifty teeing it up in Mexico, but Finau still looks way too under-priced in the market. He is as low as 6-1 in places, and is a best priced 15-2.
Watching him just about sneak into the top twenty in the Genesis last week did not suggest he is a good thing to justify the short odds here. So we’ll look for value elsewhere.
How to bet on golf
Here are five easy steps for beginners.
1. Choose Your Favourite Sportsbook – there are plenty to choose from and most have their own app or mobile site.
2. Make a Deposit – each sportsbook will walk you through how to connect your bank account to their system including providing a list of all the safeguards they have set up to ensure the safety of your transactions.
3. Claim Your Bonuses – most sportsbooks offers bonuses to first time bettors in the form of free bets.
4. Place Your Bet – now it’s time to navigate through your sportsbook’s odds where they will offer a variety of options including outright winners, or top finishing positions, such as top 10 or 20, or even to make the cut. For the event this week each way odds are generally paid on the top eight players.
5. Collect Your Winnings – If you're successful you will be able to withdraw your winnings once the bet is complete. Some bookmakers offer cashout options on certain bets as well, which is worth keeping an eye on.
Where to find the best odds for the golf?
Lots of bookmakers have different options for betting on the golf this week, including competitive odds and different place markets.
We like the markets on bet365, including the price boosts on offer pre-event.
Mexico Open Betting Tips
The next highest ranked player in the field - and in the betting - is world No 34 Nicolai Hojgaard.
The Ryder Cup ‘newbie’ is available at 16-1. If he shows the form that landed him the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai at the end of last year, he will take a lot of beating in this company.
He almost made his PGA Tour breakthrough when he finished runner-up to fellow European Matthieu Pavon in the Farmers last month. Finau was sixth, his best effort so far this year.
That makes Hojgaard more tempting than the market leader in my book. The fact he got a run-out at Vidanta last year, comfortably making the cut, is a bonus.
There are no such problems for Brandon Wu, who has finished joint runner-up and tied third in the two previous Mexico Opens. The 40-1 on offer looks a sound each way proposition.
Wu is not the most consistent player, and he did not show much when he missed the cut in Phoenix a couple of weeks ago.
But his good weeks - such as that runner-up finish here in 2022 and another second place at Pebble Beach last year - suggest he is capable of going one better, especially in a weekly contested event over a course he obviously enjoys.
Emiliano Grillo also showed a liking for this track when he finished in a share of fifth last year. At 25-1, he also has plenty going for him.
The Argentinian ace ended a seven year victory drought by winning the Charles Schwab Challenge last year, and I expect him to win again this year.
He has played consistently well this year, making all six cuts with a best finish of tied seventh at the Sony. This is weaker than most of the events he has played in, so he should be able to force his way into contention.

Another player who clearly likes the air down Mexico way is Cameron Champ. The big-hitter, who is priced up at 55-1, has finished T8 and T6 in his two previous efforts here.
With many bookmakers offering eight places - or more - Champ is certainly worth taking a look at as an each way shot.
Ryo Hisatsune is regarded as the ‘next Hideki Matsuyama’ by most Asian golf pundits. After Matusyama prevented Will Zalatoris justifying 50-1 odds for us last week, it might be worth a small investment on Hisatsune following up at 45-1.
And for those who like a real outsider, you could do worse than Nico Echavaria.
His recent form is nothing to write home about, but he sprang a big surprise when he won the Puerto Rico Open last year.
This looks like a similar test, and 250-1 about a player with winning form in the last year is not to be sneezed at.
