YES, Christmas Day is great and all, but Boxing Day is a day for sport - headlined by the King George VI Chase at Kempton.

It's a race packed with immense quality with no real standout, clear-cut winner in the field, which makes it just as hotly-anticipated as normal.

King George Chase preview

It's a festive spectacular every year and now the King George is in its 73rd renewal.

It's the most prestigious chase of the winter and is the highlight of what is a packed day of racing - with £142,375 up for grabs for winning connections.

The three mile trip will test the stamina of those that take it on, with the chance to join an elite list of previous winners including Kauto Star, Desert Orchid and Best Mate.

This time round, it's Allaho who looks set to go off as favourite after Willie Mullins confirmed that was the race they were targeting.

The Cheveley Park-owned horse missed all of last season with injury though returned at Clonmel with a win last month, taking him to five wins on the bounce.

Bravemansgame is the current second favourite though hasn't won at all in 2023.

He was comfortably beaten by Royale Pagaille in the Betfair Chase last time out, though his trainer Paul Nicholls has a stellar record in this race.

Nicholls has scooped first place 11 times since 2006 - including four of the last five renewals with Clan Des Obeaux, Frodon and Bravemansgame.

Gerri Colombe was the long-time antepost leader but has drifted as they dither on a final decision whether or not to run.

Shishkin is in the line-up and his reluctance to race last time out leaves big question marks over him and his temperament.

The Real Whacker, Royale Pagaille and Hewick are all interesting contenders for different reasons at bigger prices.

How we ranked the best horse racing betting sites for the King George Chase

Here are just some of the factors that influenced our selection of horse racing online bookies.

Range of horse racing betting markets

The best betting platforms offer a wide range of markets to cater to different preferences. It's a little bit different for horse racing as there are several meetings held every day - weather dependent of course.

Because of this, horse racing betting is available for much of the day. Even then, there's an array of markets whether it's a low-level race at a smaller course or a huge event like the King George.

Bigger meetings and races bring far more attention and you'll notice some bookies have a huge selection of markets for each race.

Competitive odds

Competitive odds play a significant role in maximizing your potential winnings from horse racing betting. Look for bookmakers that consistently offer competitive odds compared to their counterparts.

Even slight differences in odds can significantly impact your profits in the long run. That's even more the case when you're betting on multiple selections in an exotic bet or accumulator, where you can see a significant difference in returns.

Take the time to compare odds from different bookmakers to ensure you're getting the best value for your bets.

User experience

A user-friendly interface and smooth betting experience are essential when choosing a horse racing betting platform. The website or mobile app should be intuitive, allowing you to navigate through different markets and place bets with ease.

Look for platforms that provide clear and concise information about upcoming fights, odds, and betting options. Additionally, features like in-play betting, horse statistics, and live streaming can enhance your overall user experience.

Bonuses and promotions

Bonuses and promotions add extra value to your horse betting experience. Look for bookmakers that offer attractive sign-up bonuses, free bets, or enhanced odds specifically tailored to the big events.

These bonuses can boost your bankroll and provide additional opportunities to place bets without risking your own funds. Additionally, check for loyalty programs or ongoing promotions that reward regular horse racing punters with exclusive perks or special offers.

How to choose the best horse racing betting app for the King George at Kempton

There’s plenty to consider when choosing the best horse racing betting app, as sometimes top betting sites don’t always translate to the smaller ‘on the go’ format of the smartphone or tablet betting app.

We’ve picked out our top things to look our for when choosing a bookie with a betting app below:

  • Speed: The main plus of using a horse racing betting app is the ability to bet quickly on the go, which means you want an interface which is quick and easy to navigate. Make sure you look out for reviews of betting apps to get a feel for which providers offer the fastest and simplest experience.
  • Offering: Although you’re ideally looking for a speedy app, you don’t want to sacrifice your betting experience for it and you still need to look out for apps which offer as many sportsbook markets as you need. For example, if you’re a distances punter, it would not be helpful to choose an app which tends to only offer more simplified betting – like win only, each-way and exacta bets.
  • It's also a good idea to check out what else the operator has on their website. In addition to sports bonus offers, some sites also have casino bonus offers. Bear in mind that each casino offer will likely have a wagering requirement and be limited to one household, one IP address, and one phone number.
  • Streaming: If you’re betting on the go, you’re going to want to be able to watch the racing on the go, too. You want a betting app that is going to be able to reliably show you coverage of all the racing in Britain and Ireland – with anything overseas a big bonus.
  • Reviews: As mentioned above, your peers are a powerful ally, and reviews on the app store are a very helpful tool when it comes to choosing a betting app. A quick browse on the review section of your app store can help you get a feel for which betting apps are going to be the best suited to you and your needs.
  • Fast withdrawals: having access to a sportsbook that processes withdrawal requests quickly is convenient, especially if you are looking to cash out the balance from your account.
