FORMULA 1 is heading back to Qatar for the first time since 2021 and Max Verstappen has a chance to get this whole thing wrapped up.

Verstappen needs just three points from the Sprint on Saturday to confirm his third consecutive championship and cement his and Red Bulls’ dominance in the sport.

But there is plenty going on outside of that in Qatar too, including plenty of juicy betting options. We’ve got all the details you need to know about the race right here, plus the latest Qatar Grand Prix odds from top UK bookmakers.

🏎️What betting markets are there for the Qatar Grand Prix?

Casual bettors might think Formula 1 betting doesn’t go much further than picking the winner of a race, but that couldn’t really be much further from the truth. There are tons of different ways to bet on every race, including plenty of bets that are basically not affected by who winds up at the top spot on the podium.

We’re going to dig a little deeper into some specific bets in the next section, but below you can see some of the most popular F1 bets at UK bookmakers:

  • Winner
  • Podium Finish
  • Points Finish
  • Practice Session
  • Fastest Qualifier
  • Top 6
  • Fastest Lap
  • Winning Team
  • Winning Margin
  • First Driver to Retire
  • First Team to Retire
  • Safety Car

Who won the Qatar Grand Prix in 2022?

The man winning around this time last year in Qatar goes by the name of Lionel Messi! In 2022 the Qatar Grand Prix was cancelled due to the Fifa World Cup, making this the first edition since 2021 - which was itself the first ever F1 race at Lusail. Lewis Hamilton was the winner that year, with Verstappen second.

What types of bets can I make on the Qatar Grand Prix?

Next up, we’re going to dig into some of the most popular betting markets ahead of the Qatar Grand Prix 2023, and what the odds are looking like.

Qatar Grand Prix 2023 winner

There has been one name at the top of these lists all year, and it hasn’t even really been close at any point. Max Verstapped can wrap up the championship with just 3 points this weekend, and he is the red hot favourite to come out on top in Qatar.

Still, those looking for reasons to bet against Max do have some justification. After a record breaking ten consecutive wins, Verstappen has finally shown he is human by finishing in lowly position of… fifth, second last time out in the Singapore Grand Prix. He got back to winning ways in Japan, but at least it shows he can be beaten.

Check out the odds below:

Podium finish

Betting on a podium finish - basically coming first, second or third - is where things start to open up a little, compared with a straight bet on the winner. On the one hand, you get three chances to win your bet for the price of one. On the other, the odds - at least compared with a winner bet - are impacted considerably.

Outside of Max, you can get a decent price on a good selection of drivers to make the podium. Here are the odds:

Winning constructor

Red Bull called time on the race, such as it was, for the constructors’ championship last time out in Japan, and to be fair it’s hard to make an argument that they’re going to slow down any time soon. Betting on a constructor is really a double chance bet, where you win if either driver comes out on top.

Check out the odds for winning constructor in Qatar below:

Fastest lap

This market is the perfect example of a way you can bet on an F1 race without worrying about who actually wins. As you can see below, Verstappen is still favourite in this market but by a much more narrow margin than in other bets.

Red Bull are first and second in the odds, as you would expect, with two McLaren cars next in line. They have been on fire since an engineering upgrade in Austria, and look a decent bet at Lusail.

Head-to-head matchups

With a head to head bet, you can basically create your own mini-races and bet on them. UK bookmakers let you choose pretty much any combination of two drivers, and bet on which one comes out on top. The winner of the race, and indeed the wider incidents in general, have no bearing on the result.

Qatar has a couple of mouthwatering potential matchups, and we’ve picked our top three below:

  • Lewis Hamilton 3/5 vs George Russell 13/10 - Sky Bet
  • Lando Norris 4/9  vs Oscar Piastri 7/4 - Sky Bet
  • Lewis Hamilton 8/11 vs Charles Leclerc evens - Sky Bet

🏁What is the Qatar Grand Prix starting grid?

Expect to see one or both Red Bull drivers near the front at the starting grid, as has been the case all season. Outside of them, Carlos Sainz looks to be in with a great shout to claim pole position, with two poles in the previous three races.

🎁What bonuses are the best for F1 betting?

UK bookmakers are constantly coming up with all kinds of sports betting bonuses, for both new and existing members. Lots of these can be used to bet on Formula 1.

For casual bettors or anyone looking to dip their toes into F1 betting, offers like bonus bets make a lot of sense. With a bonus bet, the bookmaker basically gives you a voucher of a certain value to use on a betting market of your choice. If your bonus bet wins, you get to keep the profits only. It’s a perfect way to get involved with a new sport, or try out different types of bets without worrying about spending any of your own money.

There are also specific offers out there for Formula 1, especially at climactic moments in the season. For instance, you might get your money back if a certain driver finishes on the podium, or an early payout if your chosen driver is leading for a certain amount of time. There are also Odds Boosts, where the bookmaker chooses a specific F1 bet to receive enhanced odds.

📅What’s the F1 race schedule for 2023?

Formula 1 is reaching the business end of the 2023 season, with just five races left after Qatar. Despite the remaining races, Red Bull already have the constructors’ championship wrapped up, and Max Verstapped can complete the double this weekend in Qatar - with just three points required for his third consecutive championship.

The remaining races in the 2023 schedule are below:

  • United States Grand Prix
  • Mexico City Grand Prix
  • São Paulo Grand Prix
  • Las Vegas Grand Prix
  • Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

📲Can you bet live on the Qatar Grand Prix 2023?

Absolutely. As one of the fastest sports in the world, with cars travelling over 200 mph around, Formula 1 is one of the most thrilling live sports you can witness. It also makes it ideal for live betting, which lets you place your bets in real time in reaction to what is actually happening mid-race.

As well as the business of the drivers actually navigating the car around the track, Formula 1 races are acutely impacted by the pitting strategy and general analysis of the wider team. With 20 drivers on the track, and hundreds of little micro competitions unfolding at every point during the race, live betting on F1 makes a lot of sense.

📺Can I stream the Qatar Grand Prix on UK bookies?

No, Formula 1 is not available to stream at UK bookmakers. To watch the race live, you’ll need to tune into Sky Sports F1 at 16:30 on Sunday.

You can also follow along live at UK bookmakers, where you’ll find minute-by-minute updates from the race along with the live betting options.

📈Which UK bookies have the best Qatar Grand Prix 2023 odds?

As you can see from our list of F1 odds above, lots of UK bookmakers offer F1 betting. The competition is great from a punter’s point of view, and the ability to shop around for the best price can only ever be a good thing.

That said, we want to give a shout out to a few bookies which stand out for their F1 options.

WIth a huge range of markets, bet365 is perhaps the most detailed bookmaker in the UK, including ones you won’t find anywhere else in the country. The section for the Qatar Grand Prix reflects this, with tons of markets, extremely competitive odds, and even F1 news and analysis hosted right on the site. There is a potential £30 free bet bonuses for new members too.

We also want to call out BetUK, an excellent sports betting platform that also prominently features online casino games in its menu - in case that’s your thing. Compared with bet365, the software is arguably a little more clunky and not as smooth, but the actual betting lines and markets are absolutely up there with the best.

Finally, for anyone looking for something a little different, Spreadex has been a breath of fresh air in the UK sports betting scene. Spreadex has pioneered a new way to speculate on sport that is somewhere between regular sports betting and financial trading. In the classic understanding of the term, spread betting isn’t really a thing in F1 - which makes the novel approach at Spreadex so appealing.
