THE final event of the four week Florida swing, The Valspar Championship, could just as easily be known as the Sam Burns Benefit.

Burns, the world No 15, has won the event for the last two years, and clearly loves the testing Copperhead course near Tampa.

But it is very rare to see a player manage a “three-peat” on the PGA Tour.

It has only been achieved nine times in the last eighty years, with golf legends Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Arnold Palmer among the elite players to complete the hat-trick.

Burns, 26, hardly belongs in that company, and he will need to add plenty more wins to the four he has managed in all on the PGA Tour to be mentioned in the same breath as those icons.

But he arrives at Copperhead in a bit of a slump, after two missed cuts and a never-threatening share of 35th at last week’s Players Championship. So it might be time to crown a new champion.

How to bet on the Valspar Championship

Betting on golf is easier than you'd image and there are a host of interesting markets you can pick from.

Here are five easy steps for beginners.

1. Choose Your Favorite Sportsbook – there are plenty to choose from and most have their own app or mobile site.

2. Make a Deposit – each sportsbook will walk you through how to connect your bank account to their system including providing a list of all the safeguards they have set up to ensure the safety of your transactions.

3. Claim Your Bonuses – most sportsbooks offers bonuses to first time bettors in the form of free bets.

4. Place Your Bet – now it’s time to navigate through your sportsbook’s odds where they will offer a variety of options including outright winners, or top finishing positions, such as top 10 or 20, or even to make the cut.

5. Collect Your Winnings – If you're successful you will be able to withdraw your winnings once the bet is complete. Some bookmakers offer cashout options on certain bets as well, which is worth keeping an eye on.

Who is the favourite to win the Valspar Championship?

Justin Thomas leads the market this week at around 9/1 with most bookies.

Thomas, the world No 10 needs a strong result to kick-start his year after a disappointing Players Championship last week.

He finished T60 shooting level par, 17 shots behind winner Scottie Scheffler.

Jordan Spieth, Sam Burns and Matt Fitzpatrick make up the top four in the bookies' eyes followed by Justin Rose, who comes off a decent week at TPC Sawgrass.

Top tips for betting on the Valspar Championship

The field at the Valspar is nowhere near as strong as the powerful line-ups assembled for the Players Championship and the Arnold Palmer Invitational a week earlier.

Most of the top players are resting up for next week’s World Match Play, which will be the final start for many of the big guns before they head to Augusta for the Masters at the start of April.

There are still some big names heading to the west coast of Florida, headed by Major winners Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, and Matt Fitzpatrick.

Along with Burns, they dominate the top of the market. But none of that trio covered themselves in glory at Sawgrass, and there may be better value lower down the market.

Former world No 1 Justin Rose has made a welcome return to form this year, and he bounced back from a couple of missed cuts after his Pebble Beach victory with a tie for sixth at the Players.

Rose has repeatedly said he loves Copperhead, a course that suits great ball-strikers like him, and at 22-1 he looks an attractive proposition.

His name has often featured high up the leaderboard at the Valspar, and it would be no surprise to see him add to his Pebble Beach triumph.

Adam Hadwin, who won here in 2017, is another player who pencils in this stop on the PGA Tour as a must.

The Canadian played better at Sawgrass than his final position - tied 13th - suggests. He is not the longest off the tee, but that is not a big drawback at Copperhead, and he also appeals at the same odds as Rose,

Justin Suh was another player who caught the eye at the Players Championship, finishing in a tie for sixth.

Odds of 35-1 for a PGA Tour rookie are a bit skinny, but Suh also finished joint fifth at the Honda a few weeks ago, and he looks like he belongs in the big league.

Most of the longshots in the field are down the list because they have now shown any decent form for a while.

But Garrick Higgo, Ben Martin, and Ben Taylor have all shown flashes of promise recently, and if you shop around you can probably get 100-1 about any of that trio.
