Premier League referee from 1999 to 2013, taking charge of over 570 games in all competitions. He joined the select group of referees in 2001 and was one of the top whistlers in the English game until his retirement. Halsey temporarily stepped away from the game in 2009 when he was diagnosed with a tumour in his throat at the same time as his wife was being treated for leukaemia. He continued on in the top flight until the end of the 2012-13 season. Halsey dished out 1,332 yellow cards in his career, an average of 2.3 per game, with 72 red cards. Halsey has been a pundit on BT Sport, now TNT Sport, in his post-playing media career and regularly contributes to SunSport in his Whistleblower column and videos for and social media.
