BEARDED lady Conchita Wurst stormed to victory last night in the Eurovision.
But the UK came a lowly 17th after Molly Smitten-Downes, 27, failed to impress
with self-penned Children of the Universe.
The winning song, Rise Like a Phoenix, gave Austria its first win in 49 years
with 290 points. The UK scored just 40.
The Netherlands came second and Sweden was third.
As the drag queen Conchita — the alter ego of 25-year-old Thomas Neuwirth —
collected his trophy, he said: “This night is dedicated to everyone who
believes in a future of peace and freedom.
“We are unity and we are unstoppable.”
Political tensions arose when the crowd in Copenhagen, Denmark, booed Russia
during the voting over its role in the Ukraine crisis.
The UK has not won Eurovision for 17 years — with Katrina and the Waves the
last British champion with Love Shine a Light in 1997.
