ANT and Dec joined tweeters who blasted a contestant on The Chase as ‘the
worst ever’ after she failed to get a single question right – yet still took
home a share of the cash prize.
Hannah, a 19-year-old student from West Sussex, couldn’t come up with one
right answer during her cash builder round and left host Bradley Walsh
feeling like he was “clinging on to life”.
Viewers flocked to Twitter to voice their despair, with presenting duo Ant and
Dec branding her ‘bloody awful’.
It became clear pretty early on that Hannah wasn’t going to be the greatest
contestant the ITV show had ever seen.
Despite declaring she studied French and Italian at Bath University, she could
only manage a meagre ‘Bonjour’ and ‘Ciao’ when Walsh asked her to say ‘Hello
Brad, it’s a pleasure being on The Chase’ in both languages.
Bemused, Walsh joked: “I tell you what Hannah, I’ve got to say your extensive
knowledge, being at university has done you no… It knows no boundaries. I
love it.”
When asked what she would do with the money if she won, Hannah said she had
always wanted to go to the Bahamas and would like to travel there with her
family.
But when it came to her cash builder round, Hannah failed to get a single
question right – not even when asked which TV naturalist the
‘Attenborough-asaurus dinosaur’ is named after.
Visibly embarrassed by her “terrible” performance, Walsh suggested her luck
could change when she faced The Chaser – Shaun Wallace – at the table.
Hannah was given the opportunity to take a ‘minus offer’ of £1000 – meaning
that amount was taken off the team’s total prize fund – to place her a step
further away from intimidating Wallace.
The chance of her beating The Chaser was clearly deemed so unrealistic that
should she opt to move a step closer to him, she would win a whopping
£40,000.

Perhaps sensibly, Hannah opted for the minus offer and somehow her “guesswork”
was just enough to beat Wallace.
It was a close call, with Walsh quipping: “I don’t know about you Hannah, but
I’m really struggling to cling on to life here.
“Can I be honest Hannah? You don’t know an awful lot do you?”
Amazingly, Hannah made it to the final, where she managed to answer just one
question during the two minute quick-fire cash builder round.
Despite this she still took home £2666, a third of the total prize fund,
leaving viewers, including Ant and Dec, baffled.
