ONE is best known as the alcoholic womaniser, the other as the odd and
mild-mannered cafe owner who would be instantly recognisable to any
Coronation Street fans.
But in their latest roles, even the most die-hard of fans would struggle to
pick Chris Gascoyne and David Neilson out of a line out, as they take to the
stage together.
Chris, 48, who is best known to viewers as Peter Barlow, and David, 66, who
stars as Roy Cropper, have swapped the cobbles for the boards and are
currently starring in a new theatre production of Samuel Beckett’s Endgame.
In the play, tyrant Hamm, played by David, and his dutiful but resentful
companion Clov, played by Chris are irrevocably bound to one another as they
pass their days in a dirty and barren room, caught in an endless loop of
routine and verbal slanging matches.

David, who began the role of Roy in 1995, announced in November he was taking
a three month break from the soap.
