TOP jockey Frankie Dettori is being probed by racing bosses after failing a
drugs test.
The flat racing legend could be finished as a rider after testing positive for
a banned substance following a meet at Longchamp in September.
Dettori was axed by Godolphin earlier this year after an 18-year career with
the stable.
And he will now be investigated by French racing chiefs after the shock
revelation.
His lawyer said: “On behalf of Frankie Dettori I can confirm that, as a
consequence of a positive test at Longchamp on 16 September 2012, he will be
the subject of an inquiry by the Medical Committee of France Galop next
week.
“In compliance with, and out of respect for, the regulations of France Galop,
he will not be commenting further until the France Galop procedures have
been completed.”
The Italian is one of the most recognisable faces in the sport and made
history when he rode seven winners at Ascot in 1996.
Dettori accepted a police caution in 1993 after being found in possession of a
small quantity of cocaine.
Asked about the episode in an 2010 interview, he said: “That wasn’t about
losing weight. That was for fun. I was a stupid, cocky, arrogant kid.”
