A DOG awarded the animal version of the Victoria Cross for sniffing out Taliban booby-trap bombs has died.
Black labrador Treo saved dozens of lives.
In 2008 he twice located hidden “daisy chains” of IEDs in Sangin, Afghanistan.
Treo, 14, retired after seven years and received the Dickin Medal from charity the PDSA.
He died in handler Sgt Dave Heyhoe’s arms at home in Cheshire.
Dave, 46, said Treo had been battling illness.
He said: “I gave him the military send-off he deserved by burying him with a Union Jack and his medal.”
