Massacre manifesto

Crazed killer’s 140-page dossier of hate as 6 killed, 13 wounded

KILLER Elliot Rodger wrote a rambling “massacre manifesto” before his knife
and gun rampage — describing his burning resentment against women and hatred
of the world.

British-born Rodger, who murdered six people, emailed the 140-page document
entitled My Twisted World to his parents and his psychiatrist.

It detailed his fury at being a 22-year-old virgin and his desire to take
murderous revenge because girls refused to have sex with him.

Rodger, son of Hunger Games director Peter Rodger, stabbed three male
flatmates to death in Santa Barbara, California, on Friday — then killed two
young women and a man in random drive-by shootings before committing suicide
in his car.

But in his bizarre essay he revealed he originally intended a “Day of
Retribution” rampage four weeks ago — but postponed it after coming down
with a cold.

Rodger also whined about only ever having one true childhood friend — the
daughter of Paul Humphreys, of ’80s UK synth band Orchestral Manoeuvres In
The Dark.

And he told how police questioned him at home after his mum tipped them off
about a YouTube video he had posted that spelled out his rampage plans.

But they failed to search his flat — where they would have found the guns and
ammo he used on Friday. One of the flatmates Rodgers killed was identified
last night as Chen Yuan Hong, 20.

Police said Rodger had accused Hong of stealing candles from him and had
performed a citizen’s arrest in January.

Rodger’s essay was completed days, or possibly only hours, before his attack.

It tells how Rodger, who had refused to take anti-schizophrenia drugs his
psychiatrist prescribed, initially decided his Day of Retribution would be
April 26.

But when he got a cold he put it off until he was feeling better.

The essay also revealed Rodger fantasised about killing dad Peter, 49, from
Smarden, Kent, his Moroccan actress stepmother Soumaya and step-brother
Jazz, nine.

Part of the document is an autobiography, telling of his early years in
Britain before moving to California with Peter at the age of five.

It describes how Rodger rubbed shoulders with the children of Hollywood
celebrities — and made friends with Maddy Humphreys, daughter of British OMD
star Paul.

He wrote: “We even took baths together. It was the only time in my life that I
would see a girl my age naked. I was a five-year-old boy playing with a girl
my own age like any normal boy would do.

“This girl who was my friend, Maddy Humphreys, would eventually come to
represent everything I hate and despise.” Rodger said he was “upset and
tearful” after seeing her at a beach party a few years ago with a boyfriend.

The manifesto tells of a showbiz lifestyle filled with famous names.

His mum was a friend of Star Wars producer George Lucas which led to red
carpet invites to movie premieres. There was also a private Katy Perry
concert in 2012.

It also reveals how Rodger’s mother Li Chin, 52, contacted police after
spotting the YouTube videos that threatened a bloodbath because he was still
a virgin. He wrote: “I heard a knock on my apartment door. I opened it to
see about seven police officers.

“I had the striking and devastating fear someone had somehow discovered what I
was planning to do.

“If that was the case, the police would have searched my room, found all of my
guns and weapons along with my writings about what I plan to do with them.

“I would have been thrown in jail, denied of the chance to exact revenge on my
enemies.”

Rodgers said the police told him his mum had seen his videos and worried about
his state of mind.

He added: “The police interrogated me outside for a few minutes, asking me if
I had suicidal thoughts. I tactfully told them it was all a misunderstanding
and they finally left.”

Police yesterday confirmed they visited Rodger’s home on April 30.

The officer who questioned Rodger reported he was not a danger but was “shy,
polite and having a difficult social life”.

Twenty-three days later he knifed three flatmates.

Then, armed with three semi-automatic handguns and more than 400 bullets, he
drove around the Isla Vista area of Santa Barbara, firing indiscriminately
out of the window of his black BMW.

Students Veronika Weiss, 19, and Katie Cooper, 22, were both killed.

Rodger moved on to a delicatessen where he shot dead Christopher Martinez, 20.
Rodger, who later killed himself in his car, also left 13 people injured.
His three guns, two Sig Sauer P226s and a Glock 34, were legally purchased.

The manifesto also reveals deep racism. Rodger was furious after a black lad
revealed he had slept with a young white girl.

He wrote: “How can an inferior, ugly black boy be able to get a white girl and
not me? I am descended from British aristocracy. He is descended from
slaves.”

Rodger also told how he was sent in a frenzy after his 18-year-old sister lost
her virginity to a half-Mexican boyfriend.

As he planned the massacre Rodger detailed a plan to lure victims to his flat
and attack them with a hammer. He also spelled out a “war” on blonde women.

His parents are thought to have received the emailed manifesto just before his
rampage. A family friend said worried Paul and Li Chin had been out
searching for him as he knifed and shot his victims.

The parents’ two LA houses were searched yesterday as cops hunted for more
clues to the tragedy.

Reality and fantasy blur

By DR DAVID HOLMES, Criminal Psychologist

ELLIOT Rodger was very much part of the “me” generation — living a lot of his
time online.

Many of this generation blur the boundary between the everyday world and the
virtual world.

Many experience this “Truman Show delusion” of thinking they are living in a
film, but most do not act on these thoughts.

In his vengeance clip, he revealed a distorted, self-obsessed and arrogant
personality.

Rodger had clear narcissistic traits and felt entitled to admiration, respect
and sex.

His final posting blends self-absorption, entitlement, fantasy and a lack of
empathy that should have been a warning beacon.

Probe on cops’ lost chance

COPS faced criticism yesterday over a series of red flags that could have
prevented Rodger’s rampage.

He had contact with police THREE times before his killing spree but no
action was taken.

Officers went to his digs after his own family raised fears over YouTube
videos in which he ranted about suicide and murder.

They found him “polite” and failed to search the property.

In January, Rodger was at the centre of a bizarre episode in which he
performed a citizen’s arrest on pal Chen Yuan Hong, who he accused of
stealing three £4 candles.

And last July he claimed he was assaulted, while cops suspected he was in fact
the aggressor.

Quizzed on the incidents Sheriff Bill Brown said he was “not going to play
Monday morning quarterback”, meaning he would not discuss in hindsight how
officers might have acted differently.

Meanwhile distraught dad Richard Martinez, whose 20-year-old son Chris was
killed by Rodger, demanded an end to America’s lax gun laws.

He said: “When will enough people say, ‘Stop this madness’? We don’t have to
live like this.”
