POLICE pallbearers solemnly walk into a crematorium yesterday carrying the
coffin of a hero cop shot as he tried to stop a gunman.
PC Ian Dibell’s casket, draped in an Essex police flag with his helmet on top,
was ushered into the grounds of Weeley Crematorium, near Clacton, by an
honour guard of 24 officers.
Off-duty Ian, 41, was killed near his Clacton home by gunman Peter Reeve last
month.
It is thought he had rushed to the aid of Trevor Marshall, 48, who was also
blasted. Reeve, 64, later shot himself dead.
Essex Police chief constable Jim Barker-McCardle praised PC Dibell’s “brave
and selfless” actions.
