THE man accused of murdering five-year-old April Jones confided in his DOG
about killing the schoolgirl, a court heard yesterday.
Mark Bridger, 47, claimed he ran April over by accident then went home and
spoke to the pet.
The jury was read police interviews in which he said: “I just hugged my dog
and was talking to her about what I had done. I know it sounds stupid but I
just lay there with her.”
He said he had “a mental block” about what he did with April’s body after
putting it in his car. April vanished from near her home in Machynlleth,
mid-Wales, on October 1 last year.
Bridger said the first thing he recalled after that was being at his cottage
in the hamlet of Ceinws, adding: “I do not know whether I slept or just
blanked everything out.”
Cops quizzed the dad of six about sexual images of children on his laptop
computer. But Bridger — accused of killing April in a sexually motivated
attack — told police he was mostly incapable of sex.
He said: “I am not denying there is an amount of porn on there but I am 95 per
cent impotent.” He said it was one of the reasons he and his girlfriend
split.
April’s parents Paul and Coral Jones sat in the public gallery of Mold Crown
Court as the jury heard Bridger told cops: “I have known them for years. I
never meant to put them through this.”
Bridger also said he had considered taking April to a hospital, adding: “I did
not want her body flopping about in my car. I cannot remember whether I put
the seatbelt on her.”
Bridger denies abduction, murder and perverting the course of justice. The
trial continues.
