SOCCER star Joey Barton could attract the wrath of his own fans after calling
Newcastle hero Alan Shearer a “slaphead”.
The Toon midfielder had the dig at striker-turned-pundit Shearer on Twitter
while watching him on BBC1’s Match Of The Day.
Barton, 28, tweeted: “Bad shirt, shoes and views from shearer again. Sort it
out slaphead.”
He had been defending himself after Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere accused him of
“assault” on team-mate Gervinho — who was sent off in Saturday’s Premier
League 0-0 draw with Newcastle.
During an online rant with journalists including Piers Morgan, Barton made a
jibe about Shearer’s receding hairline.
He had earlier posted: “Off now to watch MOTD, its what sat nights are all
about. Peace out people, lifes to short to get angry at football.”
The two previously clashed when Shearer was Newcastle boss in 2009 and Barton
called him a “s***” manager.
Wilshere had tweeted: “I think @joey7barton was in the wrong today!”
Barton also revealed he was awoken by a burglar at a neighbour’s house
yesterday, tweeting: “He tried to put a massive log through the window in
broad daylight. Police have him now 4th break in of the night scum.”
Hairy we go
WHEN Joey Barton went head-to-head with Gervinho on Saturday the loser was
clear — stylish hair.
But Barton’s short back and no sides and Gervinho’s parted lock with a
mid-forehead hairband were not the only mad barnets on display during the
game.
Barton’s team-mate Fabricio Coloccini seemed to be trying to grow enough hair
for them both, with an explosion of cascading curls apparently styled by
electric shock. But outdoing all the competition was Arsenal defender Alex
Song with a bizarre orange Mohican.
It’s not like the good old days of the Seventies.
Back in those times Spurs’ Ralph Coates ruled supreme with a legendary
comb-over.
And Wolves defender George Berry and his afro both reached for the sky.
