A BRIT died from a suspected ecstasy overdose today after she collapsed in an
Ibiza nightclub.
Jodie Nieman, 20, was rushed to hospital with a heart attack. But paramedics
battled in vain to save her life and she was pronounced dead in hospital.
A post-mortem is set to determine whether Jodie, from Croydon, South London,
had taken the Class A drug.
Jodie fell ill during a night out in one of Ibiza’s resorts. Staff called an
ambulance at 4.30am and pals came with her to hospital. Jodie was pronounced
dead half an hour later.
A hospital spokesman said: “Ambulance staff tried to resuscitate her and when
she arrived at hospital, medics continued to try and save her but it was not
possible.”
A police spokeswoman said: “Police are investigating the death of a British
woman.
“At the moment we cannot confirm the cause of death. Results of the
post-mortem examination are expected later today or tomorrow.”
It is the first suspected drug death on the Spanish island this year.
During the summer season, the local hospital treats between three and five
patients for drug-related illnesses a day – making up three per cent of
emergency cases in a month.
A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: “We are aware of the death of a British
national in Ibiza in the early hours of this morning and are providing
consular assistance to the family.”
