FOUR million TalkTalk customers are feared to have had their financial details hacked in a cyber attack on the firm’s website.
Credit card and bank details may have been accessed in the “significant and sustained” security breach.
Names, addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, email addresses and account information may also have been compromised.
The telecoms company has warned its customers to “keep an eye” on their accounts over the coming months, following Wednesday’s attack.
In a letter signed by managing director Tristia Harrison, the firm told customers: “If you see anything unusual, contact your bank and Action Fraud as soon as possible.”
Action Fraud is the UK’s national fraud and online crime reporting centre. The firm also said customers should change passwords and take steps to identify anyone asking for personal data or passwords.
TalkTalk chief exec Dido Harding said last night: “We are taking all the necessary steps to understand what has happened.”
A Met Police spokeswoman said: “The Cyber Crime Unit is investigating an allegation of data theft. There have been no arrests and inquiries are ongoing.”
