COPS face an investigation to answer why it took more than THREE WEEKS to
discover the bodies of Sian Blake and her two children.
Ex-Eastenders actress Sian, 43, disappeared on Sunday December 13 but police
only issued a missing person alert on New Year’s Day.
It has also emerged police spoke to missing murder suspect Arthur
Simpson-Kent, 48, on December 16 – who is now on the run and believed to be
in Ghana.
Police finally discovered the bodies of Sian and her children Zachary, eight,
and Amon, four, in the back garden of their home in Erith, Kent, on Tuesday
– 23 days after they were last seen.
Scotland Yard today referred the case to the Independent Police Complaints
Commission.
A spokesman said: “The Metropolitan Police has today, Wednesday 6
January, made a voluntary referral to the Independent Police Complaints
Commission in relation to the Sian Blake missing person investigation.
“An initial review has highlighted some potential issues regarding the
handling and grading of the missing persons investigation.
“The Directorate of Professional Standards was informed on Monday, 4
January and is working with the investigation team to fully understand the
timeline of police interaction with the family.”
The Met’s internal investigators are already examining why detectives took so
long to treat the disappearance as suspicious.
Sian was last seen in Waltham Forest on December 13 and the following day
neighbours spotted Simpson-Kent poling black bags into the back of a car.
Police spoke to him three days later when she was reported missing and
neighbours also claim cops knocked the door down on December 18 and found
the house empty.
Detectives initially thought Sian had texted her family from Colchester and
Cambridge saying she wanted to be alone with her children, but now believe
Simpson-Kent sent the messages while on the run.
The Met issued an appeal for information on New Year’s Day but had no
sightings despite Sian’s photo appearing on the front page of The Sun.
A murder probe was launched on Monday after her car was found abandoned in
Bethnal Green.
The bodies were found in the garden of their home yesterday afternoon.
It is understood hairdresser Simpson-Kent made his way to Glasgow, where he
caught a flight to Amsterdam, before traveling on to Ghana, West Africa.
