TEENAGE activist Malala Yousafzai has won the Nobel Peace Prize – making her
the youngest ever winner.
The inspirational 17-year-old was shot in the head by the Taliban for
demanding better education for girls in Pakistan.
Malala, who was attacked two years ago, jointly scooped the prize for her
humanitarian efforts and “great personal courage”.
She was awarded the honour alongside Indian children’s rights activist Kailash
Satyarthi.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee said: “Despite her youth, Malala Yousafzai
has already fought for several years for the right of girls to education,
and has shown by example that children and young people, too, can contribute
to improving their own situations.
“This she has done under the most dangerous circumstances.
“Through her heroic struggle she has become a leading spokesperson for girls’
rights to education.”
The brave schoolgirl survived the assassination attempt by gunmen who boarded
her school bus and shot her through the head and neck.
Malala, who was then only 15, was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in
Birmingham with the life-threatening injuries.
