FANCY a faster metabolism without hitting the gym?
A speedy metabolic rate is handy when it comes to burning off excess weight –
the faster it runs the more calories you burn.
While some are naturally blessed with a quicker metabolism, others can find it
hard to ramp up their metabolic rate – making it harder to lose weight.
Here are five, gym-free, ways you can give your body a boost when it comes to
burning calories.
1. Water
Guzzling a decent amount of H2O can really rev up your calorie burn.
A study, published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism,
found that gulping down 0.5litres of water can increase your metabolic rate
by up to 30%.
It is also important to keep hydrated throughout the day –being even a little
bit dehydrated can cause slow your metabolism down by 3 per cent.
For best results, drink your water ice-cold – your body will burn extra
calories heating it back up your body temperature.
2. Eat breakfast
Everyone knows breakfast is the most important meal of the day – and it holds
this status with good reason.
Studies have shown that people who eat a hearty brekkie tend to lose more
weight than those who skip it.
This is because this first meal of the day ramps up your metabolic rate (which
has been slowed while you were sleeping).

3. Snack sensibly
Grazing throughout the day can keep that metabolism in check.
Eating six smaller meals a day (at regular intervals) can also stop you
feeling peckish – just try not to leave more than four hours in between each
meal.
4. Protein fix
Carbs tend to be most people’s snack of choice – but getting a good dose of
protein could be the answer to your weight-loss woes.
This is because the body must work harder to digest proteins (compared to
carbs and fat) meaning more calories are burnt in the digestive process.
Loading up with protein could mean you burn an extra 150 to 200 calories a day
and it will also keep you fuller for longer – meaning you are less likely to
snack on the ‘wrong’ kinds of food.
5. Coffee
Who doesn’t love a morning cuppa?
With many, caffeine hit is a popular way to start the day – and it can also
rev up your metabolism.
Not only will your morning coffee wake you up, it will speed up your fat
burning and leave your metabolic rate increased up to three hours
afterwards.
