Lost plot over Kev

Baby death forgotten

DIE-HARD Corrie fans were gobsmacked this week when long-running character Kevin Webster forgot his baby’s death.

The mechanic told daughter Sophie “Must be hard burying one of your kids” as he helped her to organise her lover Maddie Heath’s funeral.

But scriptwriters had forgotten that Kevin, played by Michael Le Vell, and wife Alison did just that when their days-old tot Jake died from an infection in 2000.

Distraught Alison later threw herself under a lorry.

Fan Pippa Dee fumed on a soap blog: “It’s especially important that historical facts are remembered in a long-running programme like our Corrie. Do they not realise how long some of us have been watching?”

Tvor added: “Staff and writers are probably bashing their collective heads against a wall today.”

Others said bosses blundered in not replacing the show’s archivist, Daran Little, who left in 2010.

Maddie, played by Amy Kelly, started dating Sophie, played by Brooke Vincent, soon after her Weatherfield arrival in 2013. She died in a fire two weeks ago.

Corrie producer Stuart Blackburn apologised for the baby gaffe.

He said: “I’d like to thank viewers who spotted our mistake. Our episodes go through many drafts and are scrutinised by many people but on this occasion we did make a mistake.”
