Gourmet Burger Kitchen’s vegetarian-mocking ad sparks furious reaction

GOURMET Burger Kitchen has been so swamped with complaints that it’s been
forced to take its new publicity campaign down.

One of the most contested adverts reads: “Vegetarians – Resistance is futile,”
next to a picture of a meat-filled burger.

Disgruntled members of the public also slammed a poster that says: “You’ll
always remember when you gave up being a vegetarian.”

An angry Twitter user claims “vegetarianism is not a trend that you give up
for a crappy burger” while another calls them “pathetic”.

Some also took offence because of a poster that directly compared a cow
chewing grass to those who chose to avoid eating meat.

After the issue was raised, debate became so heated that #GourmetMurderKitchen
started trending on Twitter.

The popular restaurant chain has been forced to post a public apology on their
Facebook page where they claim to have been “taken aback” by the reaction to
their ads.

They claim: “The last thing we ever attended to do was offend or alienate
vegatarians.

“Our intentions were light-hearted and not meant to cause any offence, but
clearly we have, and for that we apologise.”

Despite issuing an apology, not everyone is satisfied with GKB’s response,
claiming that the chain should make more effort to include their vegetarian
customers.

Luckily, not everyone has turned against the high-street restaurant chain, as
some members of the public saw the humour behind the advertising campaign.

A woman took to Facebook to tell vegetarians to “lighten up” because
there’s “nothing like a juicy slab of meat”.
