VETERAN actor Tim Curry made a rare public appearance three years after suffering a stroke.
The Rocky Horror Show star, 69, was honoured at the Tony Award Viewing Party with The Actors Fund Lifetime Achievement Award.
He attended the New York bash in a wheelchair and said he was “doing well”.
He joked about how the fund assists funeral costs, saying: “I’ve done a few benefits for the Actors Fund and I think it’s a marvellous organization. I hope not to have to use it.”
In July 2012 Curry suffered a major stroke at his home in Los Angeles.
He has used his humour to help him through the situation and when asked how important it was for him – he replied: “Vital. Absolutely vital. It’s not tough to maintain. It is just part of my DNA.”
The actor has had a long career in showbusiness and is best known for theatre and film roles including Annie, Spamalot, Amadeus, Home Alone 2, Clue, IT and Charlie’s Angels.
He also worked as a voice artist for years — most notably as Nigel Thornberry in kids cartoon The Wild Thornberrys.
But it was his gender-bending turn as transvestite evil scientist Dr Frank N Furter in The Rocky Horror Show and that made him a star.
The cult 1975 film is still shown around the world today.
