Our meals are FOUR TIMES bigger than in the Fifties, while dinner dishes have
grown 3 inches to 12 inches wide since the Sixties.
Shop-bought grub is ballooning too – in some cases it’s doubled in size in the
past 20 years.
Since 1993, a supermarket pizza has risen from 200g to 460g and a chicken pie
from 160g to 240g, says the British Heart Foundation.
No wonder two thirds of us are overweight, with Brits 1st 8lb heavier since
the Sixties.
Here, dietitian Priya Tew from the British Dietetic Association shows us how
much food staples we should be eating in any given meal, using familiar
items to illustrate ideal portion sizes.
