THIS is the moment a traveller riding a horse and cart is refused service at a
McDonald’s drive-through.
Footage shows Connor John Hamer accusing staff of being racist after he was
turned away for health and safety reasons.
He pleaded with a female staff member at the hatch to take his order,
insisting: “My horse has got more right than any other cars, they were
here before any motor vehicle”.
But the worker says “it’s dangerous because how does a horse know how to
wait in a queue?”
Connor threatens to report the staff for “discriminating against gypsies”
before the fast-food chain’s manager appears to call police.
The four minute video, taken at McDonald’s in Bury Greater Manchester, starts
by Connor asking a female member of staff at the hatch: “Why are you
not serving me?”
He adds: “A horse is like a car to me. Are you telling me my horse is
dangerous?
“You’re trying to tell me that this is a health and safety reason.”
The worker points to the horse and says: “How do we know how the horse is
going to react?”
Connor hits back: “You’re being racist love.
“I’m more than welcome to come round the drive through with my horse.
“My horse has got more right than any other cars, they were here before
any motor vehicle.”
The hungry customer adds: “All vehicles were have got to give way to
horse and carts.
“Do what you want. Ring the police, I’m not moving until you serve me,
you’re being racist.”
A woman off camera asks “Why aren’t you serving him?”
The worker replies: “Because it’s dangerous. How does a horse know how to
wait in a queue?”
She calls her manager who says: “Sorry, for health and safety reasons we
are not allowed to serve horses in the drive-through.”

Connor asks to see the rules before the manager urges him to move as he is
blocking the hatch.
The clip ends by the boss appearing to call police.
He was later pictured with a bag of food outside the drive-through. It is not
clear if it was bought while on the horse and cart.
A McDonald’s spokesman said: “This incident caused distress and disruption to
our staff and customers.
“Our drive-thru lanes are specifically designed for roadworthy motor
vehicles only and are therefore not suitable for pedestrians, bike riders,
horses or horse-drawn carts.
“Our staff member followed the correct procedure and the individual’s
companions had already been served in-store prior to this incident.”
Connor later posted a video of a staff member at another McDonald’s branch in
Bury saying she would serve a customer on a horse and cart.
In July 2013 a horse
rider was saddled with a fine after taking her pet nag into a branch in
Whitefield, Greater Manchester.
