SHERIDAN Smith was reportedly locked in her dressing room after having a
meltdown during a cancelled performance of her West End show Funny Girl.
The actress is currently starring in the leading role of Fanny Brice in the
show which is currently on at the Savoy Theatre.
She has been forced to deny accusations she was drunk on stage after fans
claimed she was slurring her words and forgetting her accent.
And according to the , she was held backstage and locked in her dressing room, which
prompted a lot of shouting and foul-mouthed abuse from the leading lady who
was insisting the show should carry on with her in it.
And it was claimed that when someone went into her dressing room to calm her
down, she ran out the room, up the side of the stage and tried to lift the
curtain up because she was angry her understudy was preparing to go onstage.
An insider said: “Sheridan ran to the curtain to try to lift it up, and
carried on a four-letter tirade.”
They also claimed her co-star Darius Campbell’s attempt to calm and console
her was rudely rebuffed.
Sheridan’s agent has denied the accusations and said: “I have spoken to my
client and this is categorically not true.”
In the end, the show was cancelled but not before fans
shared their concerns on social media that the star was under the
influence.
Theatre-goer Emma John tweeted: “@funnygirl. Haven’t seen it before. Is
Sheridan Smith’s character supposed to sound a bit drunk? Strange artistic
decision if so.”

But Abigail Richter, who paid £123 for a top stalls ticket, said she watched
the Cilla actress speak in a bizarre Irish accent as US character Fanny
Brice — and grab the crotches of her co-stars.
She told The Sun: “It was an unbelievable disaster. Sheridan was all over the
place. At one point she was standing centre stage and her leg goes from
underneath her.
“She started in a Bronx accent but slipped into Irish. Then there was a dance
scene where at one point she grabbed the dancers’ balls. She walked off and
they literally just dropped the curtains.”
