Stay-at-home mum becomes multi-millionaire thanks to business her toddler helped her dream up

A MUM-OF-FOUR now runs a multi-million company after her toddler son gave her
a business idea.

Jennifer Holland was 38 weeks pregnant with her second baby, but her
15-month-old son Ronan needed to see a doctor.

The medic needed to look at his throat but found it hard to get his mouth open
with a normal wooden tongue compressor, prompting Jennifer to realise there
had to be a better way.

It was the beginning of her idea for Throat Scope, which is a tool which holds
the tongue down while also shining a light into the throat.

Jennifer told Daily Mail Australia: “The very first prototype was a piece of
plastic – polycarbonate plastic – that I had lying around the house and a
LED torch.

“I realised that the light transmitted through the plastic and I could produce
a product that was very price-competitive with the wooden tongue compressor.”

The mum was certainly on to something, as her company is now worth $15million
(£8million).

She finalised the design of the Throat Scope by researching online, even
though she didn’t know anything much about medicine.

Jennifer pitched the idea on the Australian version of TV show Dragon’s Den,
called Shark Tank, but was consumed by nerves beforehand.

The 33-year-old mum revealed it was her six-year-old son who gave her the
courage to go for it.

She explained: “[He said,] ‘Mum you look after four of us every day, you can
do this.’

“It gave me the confidence.”

The product launched last year and has a distributer which is going to make it
available in 140 countries.
