PRINCE treated fans to renditions of his classic hits — as well as an
emotional tribute to David Bowie — in his final live gig before he died.
The Grammy Award winner took to the stage at The Fox Theatre in Atlanta, on
April 14, in a show originally re-arranged from April 7 when he cancelled
due to illness.
He then made his final public appearance at a house party on Sunday where he
urged guests to: “Wait a few days before you waste any prayers.”
During the concert he whipped fans into an excited frenzy with classics I Feel
For You, U Got The Look and The Most Beautiful Girl in the World and
finished with Baby I’m A Star — the last track he would perform before he
passed away, aged 57.
The next day he had a medical emergency which forced his private jet to make
an unscheduled landing in Illinois, US.
It is thought Prince — full name Prince Rogers Nelson — was knocked for six by
a bad bout of flu and he was briefly hospitalised.
Today authorities responded to a medical emergency at his Paisley Park studio
earlier today after reports he had died.
The Carver County Sheriff’s department in Chanhassen, Minnesota there has been a fatality, and they are notifying next of kin.
During the high-energy show where he performed behind his piano reports from
Paste Magazine claimed he looked like he had “made a full recovery.”
The star blasted out 16 songs in 80 minutes including a cover version of David
Bowie’s Heroes which was said to have prompted a “hushed awe”
among the lucky ticket-holders.
The Ziggy Stardust star died in January.
The tribute came after he opened with a mash-up of Little Red Corvette and
Dirty Mind followed up by another cover version, this time giving his take
on Vince Guaraldi’s Linus and Lucy.
The charismatic performer revved up music-lovers and urged them to clap along
to Controversy and sing along to Kiss.
: “Prince made every second count, and perhaps most
importantly, the crowd was grateful for any time at all.
“He still managed to cram two encores into those 80 minutes, and every
time he reappeared onstage, the noise was deafening.”
Though there were hints there may have been a few medical niggles which forced
him off-stage.
In his gig he also got up and sneaked from the action, returning to say: “Sometimes
I forget how emotional these gigs are.”
After the medical drama following the concert he hosted a house dance party at
Paisley – the compound where he lived and worked – to try to reassure his
fans he was OK.
