XANTHI Toupoyannis turned heads when he walked into the First Dates restaurant
this week, with viewers wondering where they’d seen him before.
The 29-year-old is now looking for love on the Channel 4 dating show, but
reality TV fans would have seen the hunky advertising sales manager twice
before.
The first TV outing for the good-looking northerner was on the legendary
Shipwrecked, where in 2009 a bunch of ill-prepared young people were left on
an island to fend for themselves.
With a camera crew catching every mishap, argument and romance, the Channel 4
favourite was hosted by Steve Jones and Miquita Oliver.
Xanthi even managed to find love with a fellow tribemate Dan and the pair even
lived together when they were returned to the UK.

After that it was on to the BBC where Xanthi starred in the documentary The
Kitchen, with his Clapham housemates Matthew Wells and David Murray – who
together described themselves as fitness fanatics.
The show aimed to give an inside view into the life of UK residents at meal
times.
On First Dates, Xanthi was paired with 25-year-old model Linford who admitted
he’s “vain and materialistic”, before adding: “I don’t like
gay people and I’ve always wanted to be straight, even now I wish I was
straight.”
Not a great match for Xanthi who believes he’s known he was gay “since I
was four”.
He added that he felt Linford was “to a certain extent still slightly
closeted”.
Appearing to beam confidence, and despite his toned physique, Xanthi made the
revelation that he still struggles with his appearance.
He said: “I eat a lot of food, therefore I have to exercise because if I
didn’t I would be massive.
“Through school I would always be the chubbier kid. I will always be the
fat kid.
“For a long time I’ve struggled with the way that I look. I’m constantly
looking in the mirror, lifting my shirt up, grabbing the fat that I’ve got –
I don’t think that will ever change.”
