‘He’s so terrifying’: Here’s what happens when Americans meet Mr Blobby for the first time

AMERICANS have been left questioning the “sophistication of British humour”
after seeing Mr Blobby for the first time.

The pink and yellow character famously appeared on Noel’s House Party in the
1990s, communicating via his googly eyes and by shouting the word ‘Blobby’.

Reddit user Soren_Aabye began a thread after seeing him for the first time and
being left lost for words.

He wrote: “I’m American, and I got absolutely no idea who “Mr.
Blobby” is, but I’ll be damned if this isn’t the funniest, weirdest,
most brilliant bit of television I’ve ever seen in my entire life.”

This captioned a video of Mr Blobby on The Big Fat Quiz of the 90s, where he
terrorised comedian Jack Whitehall after he admitted being terrified of the
character.

It seems a lot of people had some sympathy with Jack, as many couldn’t get
their head around Mr Blobby.

Sstair commented: “He looks like silly putty and sounds like a dalek.”

WatchOutRadioactiveM joked: “I will never understand the sophistication of
British humor.”

There was further amazement when tickled Brits revealed Mr Blobby had once had
a music career – his self-titled theme tune scooped the Christmas number one
in 1992.

Soren_Aabye quickly responded: “I feel like I just took acid.”

Other users suggested the character had the “vibe of a Soviet-era children’s
propaganda video”, or was “the embodiment of childhood trauma”.

The general vibe seemed to be that Mr Blobby was hilarious, if somewhat
disturbing thanks to his “unsettling” and “terrifying” voice.

As GrayGray97 said: “I don’t remember him that much as i was a kid when he was
on but it is less traumatic than the tellytubbies.”

Despite the criticism, the Brits stood firm when defending their TV character.
