Glazer dead at 86

MANCHESTER United’s billionaire owner Malcolm Glazer died today aged 86.

The controversial owner had taken a back seat at United since suffering two
strokes in 2006.

A spokesman for Manchester United said: “The thoughts of everyone at
United are with the family tonight.”

The US tycoon paid £800million for United in May 2005, funding much of the
purchase with bank loans.

Although a controversial figure among fans the Red Devil won five league
titles and a Champions League while he was at the helm.

His six kids own 90 per cent of United and will continue to run the club, as
well as American Football team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His sons Joel and
Avram are on the United board.

A spokesman for his US team said: “Known among his league peers as a
pioneering thinker, Glazer infused his team and employees with the
determination and dedication to be the best in the NFL.”

The New York-born businessmen took over the families watch parts business aged
15 following his father’s death.

The family now hold shares in several major international firms including
First Allied, Zapata Corporation, and Harley Davidson

A private funeral will be held.

In March 2010, Forbes ranked him as tied for the world’s 400th richest person,
estimating his net worth at $2.4billion.
