Chelsea legend Didier Drogba set to announce his retirement from club football to become Blues coach

DIDIER DROGBA is set to retire from playing football to join Chelsea as a
coach.

The Blues’ scoring legend has been in talks about returning to the club since
Guus Hiddink took over as boss just before Christmas.

Drogba, 37, is under contract to MLS side Montreal Impact until the end of
their season and this has proved the sticking point.

And he has not made a definite decision but is pondering calling it a day as a
player to get round the issue.

The plan is to get him on board quickly after initial hopes he may join at the
end of this season.

Chelsea are keen for Drogba to team up with them for a third time but in a new
venture as a fledgling coach.

He would then stay on if to serve under a new per many boss if and when
Hiddink departs as per his contract in May.

Drogba
sat in the stands for Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Sunderland on December 19
alongside new boss Hiddink.

SunSport reported in November how his old Team-mates were missing his unifying
qualities to maintain spirit in the dressing room after he left at the end
of last season.

Drogba made more than 300 appearances for Chelsea during two spells and
treated the squad to souvenir gold rings to mark their Champions League
triumph in 2012.
