Carneiro departure disappoints FMA

THE Football Medical Association have expressed their disappointment at Eva Carneiro’s Chelsea exit.

Carneiro, 42, left the club yesterday after being removed from pitchside duties in the wake of Jose Mourinho calling her and the medical staff “naive” for treating Eden Hazard against Swansea on August 8.

The FMA had hoped she would be reinstated but negotiations failed and the former Blues doctor is now said to be considering her legal position.

An official statement from the association said: “The FMA are extremely disappointed that Eva Carneiro will not be resuming her full duties as first-team doctor at Chelsea.

“Having recently been contacted by Eva, we have offered our full support in attempting to negotiate a satisfactory outcome.

“Unfortunately this has not resulted in our preferred outcome.”

The FA are looking into claims Mourinho used abusive or sexist language towards Carneiro.

Physio Jon Fearn and Carneiro ran onto the pitch to treat Hazard, leaving the Blues momentarily down to nine men while the star was off the pitch following an earlier red card for Thibaut Courtois.

As a result, Carneiro was later told she could not sit on the bench at first-team matches or attend training.

The FMA statement added: “We strongly believe that in matters pertaining to a player’s health and safety, respect for the integrity of the medical professional is paramount.

“The FMA will continue to offer support to Eva on a professional level through what is likely to be a difficult time.

“Chelsea consider this now to be an internal matter and it is for Chelsea and Eva’s appointed lawyers to discuss any further action.”
