Manchester United coach ‘smashed up’ on the way into Upton Park after being attacked by glass bottles

Kick-off was delayed by 45 minutes after the chaos outside the ground

WAYNE ROONEY slammed the West Ham morons who shamefully smashed up Manchester
United’s coach as the team arrived for the final match at Upton Park.

Nine windows were shattered as yobs hurled beer bottles, cans and other metal
missiles at the coach, while flares and smokebombs were let off outside the
Boleyn Ground.

Riot police struggled to control the crowd ahead of West Ham’s 3-2 win. And
Red Devils captain Rooney revealed: “It wasn’t nice. Our coach got smashed
up. I’m sure you will see the images. Of course it’s disappointing.”

Inside the stadium, United keeper David De Gea was almost hit by two bottles
hurled from the Bobby Moore Stand when Anthony Martial scored early in the
second half.

The FA and Premier League will today launch an investigation into the shameful
scenes that delayed the kick-off by 45 minutes.

Rooney added: “It was a big night for West Ham, leaving the stadium, but I’m
sure the club will be disappointed with what the fans have done.”

A video, taken by a United player from inside the bus, showed some of them
lying down in the aisle away from the windows, while Jesse Lingard is seen
mocking the hooligans. United boss Louis van Gaal added: “The images tell
everything. The way we have been received is not the proper way.”

The trouble began as United arrived late for the scheduled 7.45pm kick-off and
the coach was hemmed in by supporters.

However, Hammers co-chairman David Sullivan refused to condemn the fans and
left himself open to ridicule when he claimed: “There were people around the
coach but there was no attack on it.

“If you check the coach there won’t be any damage to it.”

He then blamed United for not arriving earlier.

It is the second time the Red Devils have been late to a London game this
season. and forced the kick-off to be delayed.

Sullivan added: “I don’t understand why United couldn’t get here at four
o’clock.

“They knew it was our last game here. It is depressing really.

“They could have got here early. They knew it would be busy. It’s crazy.

“I would have made them kick-off at 7.45pm if it was up to me.”

On the pitch, both sides served up a thriller.

Diafra Sakho put the Hammers 1-0 up but Martial’s brace had United in the box
seat.

Michail Antonio levelled, and Kiwi defender Winston Reid headed the last goal
at Upton Park.
