West Ham land the ‘next Fernando Torres’ Toni Martinez from Valencia

WEST HAM have announced the signing of promising Spanish forward Toni Martinez
from Valencia.

The striker, 18, will link up with the east London club having been in
prolific form in his Los Che youth days — netting over 100 goals in just
four seasons.

Martinez will officially join the soon-to-be Olympic Stadium club on July 1 of
this year — however he will train with his future team-mates immediately
after Valencia allowed him to settle into life in England more quickly.

And the youngster said he is really looking forward to life in the Premier
League with the Hammers..

Martinez said: “For me, it’s a great opportunity to be here and I hope to make
the most of being at such a big club.

“I joined West
Ham
because of the progress that the club is making.

“The decision to come here was made because it is a brilliant opportunity to
join an interesting club in the Premier League.”

There’s plenty to look forward to for Slaven Bilic and Co too, as Martinez
claims he is constantly being compared to former Liverpool
star Fernando Torres.

He added: “I usually get compared to Fernando Torres. I am a striker, but I
also like getting back and playing as part of the team.

“The Premier League is well considered across the world and in Spain, we
believe that it is one of the best leagues in the world.

“This is a fantastic opportunity and I am fulfilling a lifelong dream by
signing for one of the big clubs in the Premier League.”

Martinez ended by saying he hopes to break into the first XI sooner rather
than later, as the prospect of playing in front of the Olympic Stadium crowd
is massively exciting.

He said: “The prospect of playing in front of 60,000 people next year really
catches my attention, and it is a stadium that has so much history.

“I am hoping to be able to get the opportunity to do that and I hope that it
will be soon.”
