And even defenders Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo face uncertain futures as United
look to rebuild after a poor campaign.
Boss Louis van Gaal’s position as boss is also under threat, with Jose
Mourinho waiting in the wings to take over.
Depay, 22, was billed as the man to inject excitement into United’s attack but
flopped big time with his free-kicks ridiculed.
Van Gaal has been urged to “attack, attack, attack” by fans this season and
failing to get Depay to fire will be seen as an embarrassment.
Jones has struggled with injury this season and has started just six league
games, the last coming at the start of January.
Rojo has also struggled with a shoulder problem and only returned for the last
seven matches after three months out.
Reserve keeper Sergio Romero is also on his way, with River
Plate confirming their interest.
Vice-president Matias Patanian said: “River is always interested in good
players — and Romero is one of them.”
