FOR too long, classic rock ’n’ roll feuds have become a thing of the past.
But BRING ME THE HORIZON have changed all that by launching an
extraordinary rampage against COLDPLAY — both physically and
verbally.
The Sheffield band caused chaos at Wednesday night’s NME Awards when frontman OLI
SYKES trashed CHRIS MARTIN and Co’s table by jumping on top of it
as they performed.
Now Oli, whose band picked up the Innovation award, has laid into Coldplay,
claiming they tried to get them kicked out of the bash.
In an exclusive interview, he said: “I was trying to be rock ’n’ roll but it
was the wrong table, wrong crowd.
“That’s the first time you’ve seen Chris Martin angry. Chris has slagged us
off before. Coldplay being mad at you is like your RE teacher being mad at
you. You know, your parents aren’t even going to care ’cos they know it’s
s***e. It’s f***ing w***. We’re trying to break down the system.”

Oli shocked the crowd at London’s Brixton Academy by climbing on to the table,
smashing wine bottles and kicking glasses on the floor.
Oli added: “They’d been promised those wine bottles. A chubby guy came round
to their table and asked them what they wanted to drink. Chris told them —
then I stood on it.
“I was going to try to say sorry, but after his abusive and downright
out-of-order reaction, I’m out. They tried to kick us out. It’s proper got
out of hand.”
Coldplay won the Godlike Genius gong in front of an audience including THE
LIBERTINES, YOKO ONO and FOALS.
Yesterday fans claimed Oli’s destruction was revenge for Coldplay allegedly
“copying” BMTH’s Sempiternal album cover by using the flower of life on
their record A Head Full of Dreams.
Chris and his bandmates initially laughed off the incident, but the frontman
still got in a sly dig after the show.
He said: “It was great, very rock ’n’ roll. We first came here when we were
kids and we sat where Bring Me The Horizon were sitting, next to the big
bands.”
Oli deserves credit for reviving the attitude which has been much missed from
the music industry.
But at the same time, I love Chris Martin and it’s no wonder he was furious
that some wannabe tried to spoil his band’s big night.
